Mr Steve Anderson
Principal of Stephen Anderson Consulting Pty Limited - Australia
Steve Anderson is the principal of Stephen Anderson Consulting Pty and Stephen Anderson Consulting (NZ) Limited. These companies provide governance, strategic, management and financial advice to health and other public sector organisations.

One of Steve’s many previous roles was that of Principal Adviser (Health) in New Zealand’s Crown Company Monitoring Advisory Unit (CCMAU), where he managed successive Ministers’ relationships with the Chairs and Boards of all New Zealand’s health services (CHEs; HHSs and then DHBs). Steve also led a number of innovative programmes designed to enhance the cost-effective delivery of health care. He has also advised on corporate governance and management in a number of other countries, including Canada, Thailand, Micronesia and Fiji and also has clients in Hong Kong, Singapore, and the UK, as well as across Australia and New Zealand.

Ms Jenny Varcoe-Cocks specialises in Board and Director effectiveness in the public, private, government and not-for-profit sectors. She has provided advice to a wide range of industries throughout Australia and countries in the Commonwealth. Among her assignments is her role as Presiding Member for Selection Committees for several Australian Government Boards. Her major interest is participating in international debate on an inclusive approach to governance and developing a value framework for the Boardroom.

Mr Darcy Smith is a company Director and member of a number of company Boards and Boards of not-for-profit organisations. His Board experience encompasses private and government sector entities. As a chartered accountant, Darcy has provided management consulting expertise for organisations, with an emphasis on finance and risk management. He has also contributed to corporate governance development in developing countries.

Professor Bob Garratt

Bob Garratt is a company chairman, consultant, and academic working on corporate governance; board and director performance, and strategic thinking issues. He is Chairman of Board Performance Limited in London and Organisation Development Limited in Singapore and Hong Kong. His extensive consulting experience of board and business issues on five continents covers many types of organisation from large corporates to family businesses and professional practices, from parastatals to not-for-profits, and from central governments to local communities.

Bob is a Founder Member of The Commonwealth Association for Corporate Governance. He is on the Chartered Accreditation Committee, Examinations Board, and leads the Developing Strategic Thought programmes, of the Institute of Directors, London. He helped form the China-EEC Management Programme in Beijing in 1983 (the first Chinese MBA programme), and the ASEAN-EU Management Centre in Brunei Darussalam in 1992. He helped found The Global Coaching Partnership network for directors; The Learning Symposium group; and is on the Research Group of the Centre for Tomorrow's Company. He has worked with the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority on developing corporate governance for Banking Supervisors.

Bob is Visiting Professor at the Cass Business School, City University, London where his work spans the centre for Corporate Governance and the Centre for Leadership, Learning and Change. He held previously that position at The Tanaka Management School, Imperial College, University of London, where he was also responsible for the board development of the "spin out" companies; and is ex-Senior Associate, The Judge Institute of Management, University of Cambridge. He is Chairman of the Education Group of the Worshipful Company of Management Consultants.  He is Past Chairman of the Association for Management Education and Development, and led the management education side of both the Faculty of Management and Community Education, Ulster College, Belfast, and The Architectural Association School, London. He is a Freeman of the City of London.

In 2002 Bob won the annual Shareholder Value corporate governance essay prize sponsored by the European Business Forum and PwC/IBM; and in 2004 The Academy of Corporate Governance, Hyderabad, Writing Excellence prize. His books include:  The Fish Rots From The Head:  The Crisis in our Boardrooms (1996 and 2003); Developing Strategic Thought (ed) (1994 and 2003); Learning to Lead (1991); The Learning Organisation:  Developing Democracy At Work (2000); and Twelve Organising Capabilities: Valuing People At Work (2000). Right Honourable Dame Jenny Shipley
Jenny Shipley New Zealand Limited – New Zealand
With a background in government and in education, Dame Shipley operates a consulting firm whose mission is to assist governments in the ownership of government companies and service providers, and in the field of education delivery. She has expertise in implementing funder/provider splits and has particular experience in public/private partnerships. Her work also includes advising, coaching and mentoring individuals in leadership development, effective management and business strategy. Dame Shipley is also Chair of the Board of Mainzeal Property and Construction Ltd as well as being the chair of Seniors Money International Ltd.

In addition to her being a former Prime Minister during her 10 year stint in Cabinet, Dame Shipley was Minister of State Services, State Owned Enterprises, ACC, Transport, Health, Social Services and Women’s Affairs. Recently completing a visiting fellowship at Harvard, her current assignments have included working with educational institutions in China and, through the Commonwealth Association for Corporate Governance, with Ministers and Officials in regard to the ownership issues surrounding government companies. Dame Shipley is often invited to speak at international conferences. She holds Directorships in New Zealand and off shore.

Mr Victor Hughes

Victor Hughes is a chartered management accountant who spent most of his career working in Asia Pacific for a major international group of companies. During that time he worked primarily in the finance function and was a Director of various types of companies i.e. joint venture, wholly owned and public quoted. Between 1990 and 1997 he was Finance Director on the Board of Cathay Pacific Airways Limited.

Victor is active in corporate governance, was a council member of the Hong Kong Institute of Directors (and its predecessor) and was its first Executive Director. In recent years he has designed and delivered courses and lectures in Finance and in Corporate Governance internationally and wrote the book ‘Becoming a Director’. He is on the Supervisory Board of two German finance companies.

Mr Chris Pierce

Global Governance Services Limited provides governance advice to companies. Chris was formerly Director of Professional Standards and Professional Development at the Institute of Directors in the UK. Prior to joining the IoD he was the Director of the Centre for Director Education at Leeds Business School. He holds a number of Board appointments.

Chris has published widely in the field of corporate governance. His latest book is entitled "A Handbook on International Corporate Governance" and was published in December 2004. Chris specialises in training trainers, Director training and development, Board evaluation methods and processes for improving Board effectiveness.

Y.R.K. Reddy is a distinguished professor in strategy and corporate governance; independent Director; consultant to Commonwealth Secretariat, ADB, ILO, and the World Bank Group.

His consulting and training work spans 18 countries. He has been a key resource person for the Commonwealth Association for Corporate Governance (CACG) and a member of its various committees since 1999. He has seven books, written and edited, to his credit including one on “Corporate Governance in Banking and Finance”. He has done acclaimed work in relation to corporate governance in State-owned enterprises; the IT sector and the financial sector.

Dr Clive Morton

Dr Clive Morton, an independent adviser and coach on World Class Strategy and Board Development, leads The Morton Partnership, which specialises in organisational transformation, consulting to boards in Private, Public and not for profit sectors. He is a civil engineering graduate from Leeds University and spent the early part of his career in the British construction industry, working in both engineering and industrial relations.  He also has a PhD in Industrial Relations from the London School of Economics.

In the early 1980s Dr Morton served as Director of Resources and Administration at Wimpey Offshore and Wimpey Engineering, before joining Komatsu (Japan's largest integrated maker of construction machinery) as Director of Personnel and Administration, at the outset of the company's UK manufacturing operations in Birtley, Co Durham in 1986. During this period he established the Northern Pinetree Trust, a charity for those with disabilities. In July 1992 Dr Morton was appointed Director of Personnel at Northern Electric and was awarded the OBE in the same year for services to manufacturing and the community.  He became Personnel Director of Rolls-Royce Industrial Power Group in April 1994 and then worked with Anglian Water from March 1996 until March 2000, first as Human Resources Director and latterly as Director of Business Development.

He has a keen interest in the voluntary sector, believing that it can answer social needs, enhance business and develop people in totally different ways.

In October 1994 Macmillan published his first book Becoming World Class which won the Management Consultancies Association prize for the Best Management Book of the Year.  A second volume, Beyond World Class, dealing with sustaining world class performance for individuals, organisations, society and making strategic choices for the future, was published in June 1998.  In October 2001 CIPD published Clive’s latest co-authored work Leading HR – delivering competitive advantage.  In October 2003 Middlesex University Press published Clive’s latest book By the Skin of Our Teeth on business sustainability.
